State of the art 18 hole golf course in the western region under construction in KAEC

King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) has signed a contract with Citiscape Company for the construction of “Royal Greens”, an 18-hole championship golf course in Al Murooj, the most prestigious of KAEC’s coastal communities where the high quality environment is designed to meet the needs of those who aspire to a luxury lifestyle. The SR85 million project has already broken ground in anticipation of a December 2015 soft opening.

“The new golf course offers new and unique opportunities for both amateur and accomplished golfers, all in an atmosphere of fun and relaxation,” remarked Mr. Fahd Al-Rasheed, KAEC Group CEO and MD. “This new project highlights our efforts at establishing KAEC as a tourism destination. Our strategy is to accommodate all income levels with the highest standards of modern lifestyles while integrating safety, security, services, entertainment, education, health care and other aspects of life at KAEC”.

Also commenting, Mr. Ayad Gebran, CEO of Citiscape, the construction company that will create the course, said: “We have a wonderful design to work with and it is truly an honor for us to be selected to develop this superb golf course that will provide enjoyment and healthy exercise for the residents of KAEC for today and for many generations to come.”

Adding his comments, Eng. Charles Biele, CEO-Residential Development in KAEC: “Royal Greens encompasses an area of 800,000 sqm, with a length of play of 6,295 meters, and offers four tee options per hole so as to provide an appropriately challenging and fun experience for golfers at all skill-levels. As a whole, Royal Greens will feature classic strategic elements of the world’s most enduring courses, offering risk-and-reward choices and opportunities for creative and varied shot making regardless of a player’s abilities.”

“Royal Greens” will also offer a world-class practice facility for warming up or simply for leisure-time practice and recreation. In addition to a driving range, the facility will feature a teaching academy, a short game area and putting, chipping and bunker practice greens where golfers of all skill levels can receive professional instruction. Once the course is ready for play, various types of memberships, including corporate, family and individual, will be available. In addition, members will be able to take advantage of the spectacular 9,000 m² clubhouse which will offer numerous dining options, event and meeting spaces, leisure areas and a VIP section.

The championship course was designed by European Golf Design, a joint venture design company involving the PGA European Tour and IMG. Since its founding in 1992, it has been the creative force behind some of the most impressive new courses across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Asia. In its 22 years of designing golf courses, the firm has been awarded “Best New Course in Europe” by Golf World magazine, on three separate occasions.
